The Alternative Summer Theatre Festival is a self-sustaining organization that operates under its own budget. Funds raised by the festival support student and faculty projects that fall within our alternative theatre repertoire.

Over the course of three summers, the Alternative Theatre Projects will have offered 57 students creative production opportunities. A combined audience of 2,500 attended “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” at ROXY and the Mary Ann Wolfe Theatre on the Biscayne Bay Campus in 2006, an audience of 800 attended “SHEDUNNIT!” at ROXY PAC in 2007 and we had similar attendance for the Argentinean Play “La Nona”  in the summer of 2008. We anticipate another strong turnout for this year’s Alternative Theatre Summer Festival.

The Alternative Theatre Summer Festival created in 2006 offers a mix of feisty and irreverent performances, provocative productions, international writers, musicals and early works by local authors. ATSF is determined to bring together, on stage, Miami’s cultural diversity. With the ability to produce performances both in English and Spanish, our purpose is to expand the theatrical horizons to appeal to a diverse audience. It is important to the group that the international profile of our city is represented well.

The Alternative Theatre Summer Festival wants to  extend its support and expertise to any amateur writers, actors, and theatre people in general, that wants an outlet for their creativity and cannot find one in this competitive and costly field. Reaching out to the community in such a way is an important part in the decision of forming such a group as The Alternative Theatre Summer Festival
